EVENING SOUNDS

The distant sound of a mournful howl,

From a lonely dog in the shadows,

Screeching cries from an evening owl,

Arise from a lonely meadow.

Rain quietly falling on earth’s vast sod,

Replenishing it’s need for quench.

Viewing a path some deer once trod,

Murmurings whispered by lovers on bench.

Lonely cries of the whippoorwill,

As rain taps on the window sill.

Chirping crickets creating a chorus…

Causing difficulty locating their source.

The babbling of a nearby brook

With raccoons sheltered in its nook.

Doves mournful cry in the evening sky…

The thunderous roar as away they fly.

Katydids echoing “Katydid, Katydid”….

The rush of a sudden wind.

Leaves rustling to and fro…

Cracking noises as they blow.

Evening sounds like a crackling fire,

As folk everywhere prepare to retire,

Darkness nods that day is done,

As late night sounds have just begun,

Their lullaby before the dawn.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY…..

Upon our souls, may night sounds rest,

Quietly easing daily stress.
